“The most dangerous worldviews are the worldviews of those who have never viewed the world.”
― Alexander von Humboldt
My husband and I love to experience different cultures and see the world -- there is almost nothing quite as eye opening. Here are a few of our favorites. And if you are toying with heading to any of these locales, we are happy to offer you our not-to-be-missed highlights along with our lessons learned. I have also mentioned a few of the more interesting properties that we loved along the way and would highly recommend to others.
Celebrated a “landmark” birthday for Marty here – loved our start in Seville (Hotel Casa 1800. Worked our way down to Nerja to stay on the coast for a week, visiting Cordoba, Granada, and Malaga along the way. Final stop – Barcelona Hotel Praktik Rambla! We will be back, Spain!
This was a quick stopover WOW airlines on a solo trip to London to visit a friend and turned out to be one of the most amazing travel adventures for me to date. Reykjavik Alda Hotel had amazing sites and food and the people rival Texas in the friendly department. Didn’t get to see the Northern Lights on my two day excursion with Extreme Island Tours, but enjoyed the people and the diverse landscape immensely. Blue Lagoon is a geothermal bath/spa is a must stop as well.
Not sure what it was about this country that slows your American Type A personality down but I want more of it! Absolutely loved Cusco and the Sacred Valley and especially our stay at the most amazing property, The Green House. Magical trip, New Years Eve on Machu Picchu was pretty special.
Trip of a lifetime with friends who used to live on the islands and worked in the tourism industry. What’s not to love about getting to see the highlights with them? The pictures speak for themselves, like no other place on Earth.
Enjoyed being immersed in an entirely different culture, seeing friends and doing some pretty incredibly shopping. Loved finding all of the deals on nice goods with my girlfriend Trisha who has become quite skilled in the fine art of negotiations there. Peeled off on a little side excursion last visit to Shanghai Ritz Carlton and took the high speed train (a first!) to Beijing Grand Hyatt. Can’t miss the Great Wall!
Grabbed a friend and took off for Santorini for a quick excursion during their low season. Quickly learned that there was a LOT of renovation getting ready for high tourist season then but didn’t bother us a bit! Cold and windy at times but the friendship and laughs, sunsets, great food, wine and shopping made it all worthwhile.
Incredible glimpse of the tribespeople’s lives in the Northern Mountains of Sapa, fantastic history and art in Hanoi (uber historic Metropole Sofitel Hotel and Hue Pilgrimage Village resort. Nice beaches and golf in Hoi An Almanity Hotel and Spa and Phu Quoc is known for their beaches and pearls! Rich history and amazing food of Ho Chi Minh City Sheraton. And the most diverse transportation of our lives – planes, trains (overnight to Sapa), automobiles, bus, boat (overnight down the Mekong Delta), and rickshaws (thrilling night tour in HCMC)! Yup, this place has it all.
